There are several awards open to student and early career members as well as several travel stipends to assist student members with costs associated with attending the Annual Scientific Meeting.

Student Travel Stipends

Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization (ESPO) student members are eligible for a number of available student travel stipends.

Society-Wide Awards

Interdisciplinary Paper Award

The Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization offers an award for the best interdisciplinary research paper on a topic related to aging by a GSA student member. 

Poster Award

The Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization (ESPO) offers five Poster Awards.  

Douglas Holmes Award

The Douglas Holmes Emerging Scholar Paper Award recognizes research with potential to improve quality of life and/or quality of care in long-term care and is intended to encourage and support innovative and promising research across long-term care settings (i.e., nursing home, hospice, assisted living, adult day, or home and community based care). 

Minority Issues in Gerontology Poster Award

The Minority Issues in Gerontology Committee offers a Poster Award to recognize GSA ESPO members from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups for original and innovative research. 

Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education Awards

Student Leadership Award

The Student Leadership Award recognizes a student whose leadership has advanced the goals and mission of the Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) as well as the respective goals of his/her AGHE-affiliated institution.

Graduate Student Paper Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize excellence in scholarly work by a student at an AGHE member institution or has selected AGHE as a primary or secondary section, and who presents his or her work at the GSA Annual Meeting. If the quality of submissions meets the following guidelines, one award will be granted annually.

Behavioral and Social Sciences Awards

Student Research Award

The Behavioral and Social Sciences Section presents two awards for student papers: one at the pre-dissertation level and one at the dissertation level.

Boaz Kahana Student Poster Award

The Boaz Kahana Student Poster Award recognizes a current BSS student member, graduate or undergraduate, for original and innovative research relevant to mental health and aging.

Biological Sciences Awards

George Sacher Award

The George Sacher Student Award is given to the best student paper or poster contribution by a GSA member at the Society's Annual Scientific Meeting.

Austin Bloch Award

The Biological Sciences and Health Sciences sections are offering The Austin Bloch Postdoctoral Fellow Award to recognize an outstanding paper or poster contribution by a Postdoctoral Fellow in biomedical sciences.

Health Sciences Awards

Person in Training Award

The Person-in-Training Award is given to a student of the Health Sciences section for the best student paper at the Society's Annual Scientific Meeting.

Research Award

The Health Sciences Research Award is given to a new investigator in the Health Sciences Section.

Austin Bloch Award

The Biological Sciences and Health Sciences sections are offering The Austin Bloch Postdoctoral Fellow Award to recognize an outstanding paper or poster contribution by a Postdoctoral Fellow in biomedical sciences.

Social Research Policy and Practice Awards

Outstanding Student Poster Award

The Social Research, Policy, and Practice Outstanding Student Poster Award recognizes a current SRPP student member, graduate or undergraduate, for excellence in research as reflected in an outstanding research poster presentation.
