AARP Announces 2021 Quality Measures Innovation Grantee Winners
AARP will announce the two grants being awarded for work that will focus on health equity in partnership with Optum Labs. Given every two years, these grants are intended to help develop innovative health quality measures that address important gaps in care for older Americans.
Speakers: Lina Walker, PhD, Vice President, Health Security, AARP Public Policy Institute; Deb Sundal, Senior Vice President, Optum Labs
AARP Nursing Home Dashboard
The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a heavy toll on nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, killing more than 186,000 residents and staff. The AARP Public Policy Institute, in collaboration with the Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University in Ohio, created the AARP Nursing Home COVID-19 Dashboard in October 2020 to provide four-week snapshots of the virus’ infiltration into nursing homes. They have updated it each month with the goal of identifying specific areas of concern at the national and state levels in a timely manner. Susan Reinhard and Ari Houser will showcase the data from AARP’s November 2021 dashboard and current trends in how COVID-19 is affecting nursing homes.
Speakers: Susan Reinhard, PhD, RN, FAAN, FGSA, Senior Vice President & Executive Director, AARP Public Policy Institute; Ari Houser, Senior Methods, Advisor, AARP Public Policy Institute
Health Care in Rural America
AARP Research will preview three new reports that explore how older Americans living in rural areas are experiencing the use, access to and affordability of health care. The new reports also take an in-depth look at dental care and telehealth. This series of reports finds access to quality health care in the rural U.S. may be worsening, with access to specialty care even more challenging. These reports will be released in honor of National Rural Health Day, Thursday, November 18, 2021.
Speaker: Alison Bryant, PhD, Senior Vice President, AARP Research
