Invitation to Submit Your Scholarship: Opportunities with GSA’s Journals and 2021 Meeting

The next few weeks at GSA offer some prime opportunities to share your science! Not only are we accepting abstracts for the 2021 Annual Scientific Meeting (until March 11), but GSA’s journals have three open calls for submissions across a wide range of disciplines.

The Journals of Gerontology, Series B: Psychological Sciences and Social Sciences is welcoming brief research reports focused on the COVID-19 crisis and its implications for older adults. The accepted papers will be part of a virtual collection titled “COVID-19 and Aging 2.0,” which is intended to highlight?rigorous work on the mechanisms through which COVID-19 affects older adults,?ideally drawing on?longitudinal studies.?The editors also encourage cross-national studies, as well as submissions focused on the disparate impacts of COVID-19 for Black, Latinx and Native American populations. Submissions are due March 15.

Series B is also planning a join special issue titled “Psychological and Social Dynamics of the Aging Experience Among Racial/Ethnic Minorities.” The goal is to advance inquiry on the diverse — and at times disparate — aging experience among racial and ethnic minorities. The editors welcome original research on the psychological, cognitive, social, and economic influences on age and the life course as it pertains to minority aging. They are also encouraging submissions from authors with backgrounds underrepresented in science. Abstracts are due by March 16.

Moving to The Journals of Gerontology, Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences, its Biological Sciences section is planning a special issue titled “The FOXO3 Gene and Its Relation to Lifespan and Healthspan.” The editors write, “Of particular interest are papers that make a significant contribution to the field and shed further mechanistic insight into the effect of FOXO3 on lifespan and healthy aging. Papers that report on studies in humans or utilize animal models will be accepted.” Abstracts are also due March 16.
