Know an Outstanding Colleague? It’s Easy to Nominate Them for a GSA Award!
By CEO James Appleby, BSPharm, MPH
Recognizing excellence in any given field is a key role for professional societies, and this is one that GSA is proud to play. Through April 2, we are accepting nominations for nearly two dozen prestigious awards for gerontological achievements.
This is an important time in our history to honor those who have demonstrated leadership, vision, and commitment in the field of aging. Looking back at the disruption of the pandemic, GSA members persevered and showed their collective resilience. You advanced research programs, wrote grant proposals, published new papers, prepared presentations, and helped guide our Society. You have kept the aging research enterprise moving forward through it all.
You now have the opportunity to elevate outstanding advanced and early/mid-career individuals of all disciplines. The available awards include those that are open to all GSA members and some that are specific to one of GSA’s professional member groups. The eventual recipients of these awards will join the ranks of our field’s most illustrious names spanning decades.
For example, GSA’s top awards, those named after Donald P. Kent, Robert W. Kleemeier, and James Jackson, are among those accepting nominations right now. We honor the recipients each year with videos shown at the Annual Scientific Meeting. Take a look at our collection from the past few years. Be inspired by the praise and respect given by the award nominators, and consider which individuals you would like to pay tribute to in the same manner.
Be sure to submit your nominations by April 2. Questions about requirements can be addressed to awards@geron.org.
